Anyone who has traveled along Lapeer Road near the Palace of Auburn Hills has seen “the hill”. When viewed for the first time from a distance one might not realize it’s a landfill until they get a little closer and see the trucks traversing up and down the hill. The landfill is referred to as the Oakland Heights Development Landfill and has been around since the early 80’s.
Those who’ve traveled frequently on Lapeer Road, have seen the hill grow taller each year and those who have paid more attention to the activity may have noticed fewer trucks traveling to the top. One of the main reasons for this that the hill has just about reached its approved height of 1,265 feet above sea level.
The top of hill is also the highest point in Auburn Hills.
