“Checking In” On Opdyke Road Hotel Construction

Construction is moving full-steam ahead on the two new hotels at 907 N. Opdyke Road.  The $14 million development is being built by Basil and Mike Bacall.

The Holiday Inn Express, located on the eastern portion of the site, sits closest to Opdyke Road.  The building shell is complete, and interior work is now underway.  The building is scheduled for completion this coming Spring.

Right next door, on the west end of the site, work on the new Staybridge Suites Hotel is now more visible.  The site work, stairs, elevator shafts, foundation, and slab are complete, and construction of the exterior walls started last week.  The hotel is slated for completion this Summer.

One More Year: City Council Extends Approval Of Two Projects

This past Monday night, the City Council approved one-year extensions for two projects originally proposed for construction this year.  The combined investment for both developments is estimated at $11.7 million.

First, Legend Valve and Fitting intends to build a 59,826 square foot building addition on the west side of their existing facility.  The property is located at 300 N. Opdyke Road.

Second, Basil Bacall plans to construct a 96-room, Hilton Garden Inn hotel.  The site of the new three-story, 67,740 square foot building will be located at 3900 Baldwin Road adjacent to Great Lakes Crossing Outlets, directly east of the TownePlace Suites hotel.

The developments did not move forward this year due to business timing and financing.  Both are anticipated to begin in 2018.

New $14 Million Hotel Development ‘Going Up’ On Opdyke Road

In March 2016, the City Council authorized the construction of a $14 million proposal by Basil and Mike Bacall to build two new hotels – Holiday Inn Express & Suites and Staybridge Suites – at 907 N. Opdyke Road.  We’re pleased to report that the development is under construction and starting to rise up out of the ground.

The foundation and initial masonry work for the Holiday Inn Express & Suites is now complete.  The placement of steel is expected to begin within the next two weeks and wood framing is planned to start in June.  The Holiday Inn Express & Suites is anticipated to be complete by January 2018.  The foundation installation for the Staybridge Suites is scheduled to start by July, with the hotel being ready for occupancy by August 2018.

Thumbs Up: $11.7 Million In New Private Investment Approved

The City Council recently approved two new projects that have a combined investment of $11.7 million.

First, Basil Bacall received authorization to construct a 96-room, Hilton Garden Inn hotel.  The site of the new three-story, 67,740 square foot building will be located at 3900 Baldwin Road adjacent to Great Lakes Crossing Outlets, directly east of the TownePlace Suites hotel.

Second, Legend Valve and Fitting, Inc. obtained approval to construct a 59,826 square foot building addition on the west side of their existing facility.  The property is located at 300 N. Opdyke Road.  The proposed addition is intended to be used as warehouse and will increase the size of the building to 205,992 square feet.  It will become the 15th largest industrial building in Auburn Hills.

Both projects are anticipated to begin construction in Spring 2017.

Success of Great Lakes Crossing Outlets Spurs Fourth Hotel

An application has been submitted to the City of Auburn Hills to allow the construction of a 96-room, Hilton Garden Inn hotel.  The site of the new three-story building will be located at 3900 Baldwin Road adjacent to Great Lakes Crossing Outlets, directly east of the TownePlace Suites hotel.

This will be Basil Bacall’s fourth hotel along the mall’s western ring road, which will make available a total of 348 rooms for visitors and business travelers.  Previous hotels constructed in the vicinity are the Holiday Inn Express (Y2007 – 90 rooms), Hampton Inn (Y2011 – 80 rooms), and TownePlace Suites (Y2015 – 82 rooms).

Those interested in learning more about this proposal are encouraged to attend the public hearing at the Planning Commission meeting scheduled for Wednesday, October 5th at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber at City Hall.  A final decision on the project is anticipated to be made by the City Council on Monday, October 24th.

Construction of the new hotel is anticipated to start in Spring 2017 and will take 12 to 14 months to build.

City Council Authorizes $25.8 Million In New Private Investment

We’re pleased to report that the City Council approved two excellent projects yesterday.

The Council’s first action was to approve a proposal by Burton Katzman, estimated at $11.8 million in acquisition and renovation costs, to transform the vacant 128,000 sq. ft. building at 3300 University Drive into updated space for multiple business tenants.  The building was formally occupied by GKN Automotive.  Click here to learn more.

Basil Bacall and his brother Mike currently operate four hotels within the City.  Upon completion of these two additional hotels, their developments will total 534 rooms and approximately $30 million in capital investment.
