We’re pleased to report that Milwaukee-based STRATTEC SECURITY COMPANY, the world’s largest producer of automotive locks and keys, has purchased the former Atlas Copco building at 2998 Dutton Road. The building had only been vacant for about a month.
Formerly a division of Briggs & Stratton, STRATTEC’s heritage goes back to the early days of the automobile. Their new Auburn Hills facility will house the company’s metro-Detroit sales and engineering offices. The company had outgrown its existing facility in Troy. STRATTEC’s primary customers are Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Volkswagen, Ford Motor Company, and General Motors.
The building will also be the new headquarters for VAST (Vehicle Access Systems Technology), which is a joint alliance between STRATTEC and two other companies. Under this relationship, STRATTEC, WITTE Automotive of Velbert, Germany, and ADAC Automotive of Grand Rapids sell their company’s products to global markets under the VAST brand name.
STRATTEC plans to start moving into the building before the end of the year. VAST will follow in Spring 2015. Approximately 100 people will be employed at the facility.
