It was a bright and sunny afternoon and a co-worker and I elected to start our evening in Downtown Auburn Hills. Though we are both long term residents of the city, we agreed that we need to make more of an effort to spend time in our developing downtown.
As we sat outside enjoying an iced-tea from Sweets!, we listened to the sounds of the Beetles, courtesy of the recently added audio system now serenading shoppers and pedestrians as they stroll along Auburn Road. We caught up on each other’s lives…family, work, vacation plans…the usual.
After awhile, we decided to walk over and visit our Farmer’s Market. I must admit, I may be developing an unhealthy attachment to one of the vendors. I LOVE fragrances and the products offered by Farmington Soap Works have met my ‘Smell Good’ standards!
I am not sure if it was the weather, the live music, having a shopping buddy, seeing so many of my neighbors or receiving a typical warm smile and hug from our Mayor Pro Tem Maureen Hammond, but I spent a little extra this week…ok a LOT extra.
I had an enjoyable chat with Stephanie Carroll, Coordinator of Community Relations and Legislative Affairs for the City and also saw one of my fellow Planning Commissioners, Greg Ouellette, offering uniquely created art work (J & C Object d’Art)…check out the nice smile.
My other purchases included items from Sanilac FFA Produce and Porter’s Orchard. I have noticed that many things in Auburn Hills remind me of the childhood story of the race between the tortoise and the hare. It begins modestly, with slow steady growth, and before you realize it, a major ‘win’ has occurred.
I am really enjoying our quaint Farmer’s Market and can’t wait to see how it evolves.
Hope to see you there one sunny Thursday afternoon!
