We are pleased to report that Tim Hortons Cafe & Bake Shop has submitted building construction plans to add a new store inside the Meijer at 800 Brown Road. It’s expected to open by the end of November, just in time for the holiday season.
Tim Hortons has some good eats. The store’s menu will include premium coffee, espresso-based beverages, specialty teas, home-style soups, fresh sandwiches, grilled paninis, wraps, hot breakfast sandwiches and fresh baked goods, including their trademark donuts.
Interestingly, many may not know that the restaurant chain is named after a star hockey player. Tim Horton played 22 years in the NHL as a defenseman, the majority with the Toronto Maple Leafs. After many summers of hustling to make an off-season living, Tim decided to try his luck in the coffee and donut business. The first Tim Hortons franchise opened in Hamilton, Ontario in 1964.
Sadly, Tim did not live to see the chain’s great success. He was tragically killed in an automobile accident in February 1974 after a hockey game. At the time of Tim’s death, there were 40 Tim Hortons restaurants. Today, there is 4,071.
We love donuts in the Community Development Department, so we eagerly await their grand opening. We’ll remember Tim’s legacy and be thankful for another excellent business investing in our community.
