Getting ready to install a fence, build a deck, or plant a tree? Did you know that for your safety and others, State law requires you to notify MISS DIG before you excavate?
They process calls State-wide from people planning to dig and then notify their member utilities about these excavations. In turn, the utility companies then mark the dig site with stakes, flags, or paint to indicate the approximate location of their underground lines. So, even though you call MISS DIG to report your work, they are not the ones who actually mark the utilities.
The MISS DIG System is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to process emergency and non-emergency requests. Since utility companies need at least 3 working days for routine requests to get a crew out to your property, please keep that in mind when planning your project.
So, before you dig please contact MISS DIG by calling either 811 or 800-482-7171. You can also make an on-line request at www.missdig.org.
It’s not only for your safety, it’s the law.
